The Story
"My heart for ministry is to create authentic spaces where people can encounter God through worship."
SHE'MYAH TAJUAN WILSON — who goes by Myah — was not accidentally placed in ministry. She was born into it. Raised in Jacksonville, Florida, by her mother Vermeshia Drayton-Clark, a minister in her own right, Myah entered the world surrounded by worship. She began singing at two years old. By eight, she was training alongside gospel artists in her mother's rehearsals. Her name carries its own theology: Shemyah means one who hears from God.
She attended arts-focused schools throughout childhood — dance, theater, piano, orchestra, voice, guitar. She was ministering at churches by twelve. At fifteen, she toured with her cousin Lawrence Flowers. Her formal leadership began at eighteen, simultaneously serving as Youth Worship Director at West Jacksonville COGIC and Worship Director at Christ Church Intown — where she navigated genuine cultural distance as the only Black female worship leader in a predominantly white congregation without fracturing the room.
The most formative season came in Texas. Relocated, without employment or family nearby, she entered what she calls a "valley" — a stripping that became a deepening. She surrendered fully, committed to prayer, fasting, and worship without the props of visibility. Within a month, provision began to move. That season forged a theology of dependence that now anchors everything she leads. It led her to Birmingham. She arrived prepared.
Five Voices Profile
Connectors rally people to causes and things they believe in. They are champions of relationship and strategic partnership — someone who responds to any challenge with "Whatever we need, I can get it, or I have a source." Myah's relational range — spanning COGIC, Presbyterian, non-denominational, and church-plant environments — is a Connector at full deployment.
Creatives see the world as it could be, not just as it is. They bring vision, artistic expression, and innovative energy to every room they enter. For Myah, creativity is not aesthetic — it is spiritual. She builds worship cultures, not just setlists. She imagines atmospheres before she builds them. The Creative voice is what makes her dangerous and irreplaceable.

Personal Insights
Culture
Spirit-led and operationally grounded. Thrives where excellence and authenticity are treated as partners, not competitors. Values integrity, transparency, and emotionally safe leadership.
Leadership Style
Collaborative, hands-on, systems-oriented. Leads by influence rather than title. Invests in people beyond execution — checks in personally, creates space for both spiritual and personal development.
Musical Identity
Multicultural gospel worship built on both classical training and deep intuition. Voice, guitar, piano, orchestra. Her range spans COGIC tradition, Presbyterian congregational worship, non-denominational contemporary, and professional gospel production. Shaped by Tye Tribbett, Travis Greene, Kirk Franklin, Tamela Mann, and the old-school gospel her grandmother raised her on.
Calling
To create authentic spaces where people encounter God. To unify teams, engage diverse congregations, and build atmospheres where people genuinely meet God — not watch a performance.
Her Name
Shemyah means one who hears from God. That mantle is not metaphor — it is the lens through which she leads: not from volume, but from sensitivity.
What She Builds
Worship infrastructure. Team culture. Planning Center. ProPresenter. Setlists that move with the Spirit and rehearsals that develop people, not just parts.
Fun Facts
Started singing at age two. Toured professionally at fifteen. Plays guitar, piano, and studied orchestra. Has worked with 12 of gospel's biggest names — and still counting.
Family
Myah is a single mother to Izzy Carree, age six. This is not a complication to navigate — it is a factor to understand. She has not built her ministry around her daughter's absence; she has built it in a way that keeps her daughter central. Multiple references across decades consistently affirm that Izzy is her highest priority and that she demonstrates steady, present motherhood that reflects character rather than performance.
Izzy is adaptable, outgoing, and bubbly — adjusts well to new environments. Regarding the Birmingham relocation, her daughter is genuinely excited. Myah also believes Izzy carries a calling on her life, and she is committed to stewarding that as it develops.
